Photography and cameras become addictive and we are overcome with GAS (gear aquisition syndrome). This fortunately is incurable, with the symptoms only kept under control by continuing pursuit of the best image. Some vintage gear is capable of very high image IQ. Identifying and finding these camera/lens combinations is our constant challenge. Whilst we are very much busy photographers, shooting daily, we love our vintage gear, so a few years back we decided to share this with those who have similar interests. Hence our Vintage Camera Shop came to life. All equipment offered on our website has been purchased over time for our own use and as our photography practice has evolved our gear requirements change. At time of sale all items offered are owned, unencumbered, by A.B. Donald Ltd.

Our pre-owned gear is in sound useable condition.

Images are of the actual item for sale - not a generic image.

All our gear is used. Some is 2nd hand to us, some new to us. All gear offered operates as intended. We grade conservatively.

Grade A+ is used with only a few cosmetic blemishes 8/10.

Grade A shows obvious use such as minor abrasion or light brassing 6/10.,

Grade A- is well used and may have many cosmetic blemishes, abrasions and brassing, but is sound and operational 4/10.

All our photographic equipment is stored in humidity controlled space.

We do not sell lenses which are contaminated with fungus, mold, or marked by improper cleaning.

All our camera bodies are cleaned and disinfected with pure isopropyl alcohol before dispatch.

We are unable to ship batteries internationally.

Light seals and SLR mirror cushions are always replaced and may slightly delay dispatch of your camera as new seals require
24 hours to settle.

Payment and refund policy:

Customers may use their PayPal account or a credit card.

Cash and bank transfer are also acceptable.

We only ship to a confirmed PayPal address.

Orders may be collected from our Auckland premises by prior-arrangement.Freight and insurance charges do not apply.

We are unable to undervalue items for International sale.

New Zealand purchases are 15% GST inclusive , International purchases are zero rated for GST.

Indent orders require 40% deposit with balance payable on delivery and are not returnable.

We usually dispatch within 1 business day of order receipt and payment. Subject to light seal replacement (see above).

Any transit damage must be claimed from the carrier.

Claims for loss in outward transit must be notified to us in reasonable time allowing for transit norms.

Our concern is to ensure your 100% satisfaction with your purchase, that it is operational and as you expected, however before you make a purchase from our vintage camera or lens selection please be aware that these cameras are vintage and average about 40 years old. Do not expect a new camera or lens - they are used and will have blemishes according to grade, but nothing rendering them not fit for purpose. We shoot these cameras too and the examples offered are all in good usable condition and have been thoroughly inspected and shot by us to ensure their integrity, however if you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, you can notify us of return within 10 business days of receipt and receive a full refund or exchange including outwards freight charges.
NB: 10 day period applies to notification only, not the physical return of the item, however we would expect to receive it in a timely manner to activate issue of refund.

Notification of returns or exchanges are accepted within 10 business days of delivery and are subject to the following conditions:

We do not refund return freight charges. Returned items must be shipped to us with freight prepaid.

A.B. Donald Ltd cannot be responsible for returned items lost in return transit and we recommend you use a trackable, insured post or courier service, or personally bring the item to our Auckland office.

Price differentials, + or - , on exchanged items will be charged or credited.

Any returned item must be in the same condition as it was when dispatched. Items that have incurred impact or been exposed to liquid, sand or atmospheric dust are specifically excluded from our returns policy.

Cash for your film cameras and lenses.
Yes, your working film (analogue) camera from the 1950s – 1980s may be worth money. With film photography enjoying a renaissance these days this could be great news for you. You may have moved completely to digital or find that Iphoneography suits your needs now. If you have film cameras and lenses sitting unused that have been well stored (in a dry cupboard), we will have definite interest.
We are prepared to pay good $ for them. We will buy 35mm, both fixed lens rangefinders and SLRs, also medium format rangefinders, SLRs, TLRs and folders. We are especially interested in these brands: Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Fuji, Voigtlander, Zeiss, Contax, Minolta, Yashica, Rollei, Olympus. Our preference is for cameras which are in above average condition, not refurbished or modified and which have not been exposed to liquids, sand or atmospheric dust. We are not interested in lenses contaminated with fungus. We buy locally (NZ) and Internationally (Worldwide).
We will sell your analogue gear on behalf.
Yes, we do buy some gear outright, but like everything in life there are times when an alternative is better. This is ‘On behalf’ selling. We list semi and professional 35mm and medium format cameras and lenses. All gear that we list on behalf must be in operating condition. We do not list point & shoot cameras, digital gear or flash equipment.
Let us know, via email, the gear you are wanting to sell, with a comprehensive picture suite attached. (pictures should be jpeg at least 500kb each - good quality cellphone images are acceptable). We will contact you to discuss gear condition and potential sale price. If we can physically assess your camera or lens then we can clearly state it’s condition, with a rating A- to A+ on the listing. If it is not possible to physically assess your gear (maybe because of distance) we will state that the item is in working condition but we will be unable to rate it. Our money back guarantee applies to gear we have physically checked with no guarantee on gear we cannot check except that it is in working condition.
Our commission rate on gear sold is 12% + GST. Payment to sellers is within 1 week of sale.

This can be a daunting job if you don’t know where to start or have the confidence to purchase from unknown overseas sellers. We are commercial photographers with over 20 years in this business and have been sourcing vintage gear for more than 10 years. Through this time we have built up a small group of reliable suppliers, each of whom we have dealt with multiple times. This has given confidence in their integrity.
Ask us to source the camera or lens you are looking for and we will submit firm delivered prices for your consideration. To proceed we require a 40% deposit with the balance payable upon delivery.
